Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is a behavioral disorder typically diagnosed in elementary school. ODD is very common in children that have ADHD. Symptoms include anger, temper tantrums, resentment, arguing with authority figures, blaming others, and vindictiveness. When a child demonstrates these behaviors, it causes disruption in school, social activities, and home life.
We partner with parents and their children to identify and resolve behavioral concerns through a conservative medication plan and skills to address anger. From a parent perspective, we emphasize goal setting and communication, and rewarding positive behavior. Therapeutic treatment with children involves adaptive thinking, impulse and emotional control, and recognition of consequences.
